White Jade Censer
HK$413,000
The finely-carved white jade censer of pale celadon tone, flanked by a pair of dragon handles and outspread wings, adorned with dragons around the body and base, supported on three legs, the domed cover carved with dragons and mythical beasts, accompanied by a wooden stand.

Censer measuring approximately 206 x 130 x 120mm.
TRIPOD CENSER
Jade carvings of household objects such as censers and vases, performed in the Shanghainese style, come across as staid and elegant. The beautiful decorative patterns on them are reminiscent of those found on ancient Chinese bronzeware.
Judging by the uniformity in colour and texture, it is clear that the tripodal censer and its cover are carved from the same piece of jade. Meticulous craftsmanship is also reflected by the tight-fitting of the cover and the receptacle’s opening. The cover is carved with a ferocious dragon in openwork. Decorative elements carved on the handles, base and legs are in well harmony. Each handle is suspending a loose ring in symmetry. The legs of the censer are elaborated by carvings of mythical-beast heads in low relief, conveying a sense of motion and dignity.
