WANG JUNYI

As a contemporary jadeite artist and a jadeite carving master, Wang Junyi carried the unprecedented contemporary art piece of ‘Ice Butterfly’ to his solo exhibition held in National Museum of China in 2012, becoming the first artist ever to hold a solo exhibition of contemporary art and jadeite carving there. Wang spent twenty years in mastering and exploring sublime jadeite carving skills with humanistic spirits, creating a fusion of art that integrates jadeite cultures with contemporary arts, crafting impeccable art pieces of the time. In 2014, Wang held his solo retrospective world tour with the Louvre as the first stop, showcasing selected works of his fine jade sculptures. Jade has long enjoyed popularity in China, but for the first time, the culture of exquisite jade craftsmanship is presented to the western society in the renowned museum. The showcased works demonstrate various forms of his creation and how the ideology inspires his idea throughout his career.

This season, Tiancheng International is delighted to present two lots which are delicately carved by Wang Junyi, including Three Coloured Jadeite 'Miniature Buddha' Pendent Necklaces (Lot 140) and Icy Jadeite Pendent Necklace (Lot 139). As one of the main subjects of Wang's carvings, the Miniature Buddha pendants accentuate the peace and mercy of Buddha. The finely translucent jadeite is as pure as the innocent heart, exemplifying the serenity of great Buddha.
