Blue Zircon and Diamond Ring, Kat Florence
HK$150,000
Centring on a cushion-shaped blue zircon weighing approximately 23.20 carats, to a stylised basket decorated with brilliant-cut diamonds together weighing approximately 1.10 carats, mounted in 18 karat white gold, signed. Adjustable ring size. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
RED AND BLUE ZIRCON Due to its high refractive index and strong dispersion, zircon has great brilliance and intensive fire like diamond. It is one of the oldest gemstones on earth, and has been fond of for thousands of years. The English name “Zircon” is believed to come from the Arabic word zarkun, meaning “vermilion” and the Persian word zargun meaning “goldhued”. In ancient India, zircon was known as “eclipse of the stone”. It was also one of the twelve gemstones which was worn by the Jewish bishop. Zircon is admired by Asian collectors. In Japan, the stone is called hyacinth which is a birthstone for the month of December as a symbol of success and luck. It is also the stone for fourth and thirtieth wedding anniversaries. Mined in Sri Lanka, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and other Southeast Asian countries, zircon comes in a rich array of colour, varying from colourless to blue, yellow, green and reddish hues. Red zircon is widely popular among collectors in Greater China for its auspicious connotation. Blue zircon is a favourite among international connoisseurs. It has once been named as starlite by eminent gemologist Dr. George Kunz as a tribute to its highly refractive nature. The pleasing blue stone is also thought to guarantee a deep, peaceful sleep in western culture. This season, Tiancheng International is in partnership with Kat Florence again to present two mesmerising zircons of red and blue hues. Both demandingly soughtafter at auctions, these fiery-coloured gems are the vibrant beauty that demonstrate resplendent brilliance.
